Generals Struggle In opener, Fall 34-0

By: Justin King

The 2014 Boise Generals season got off to a rough start. On a great night for football, the Generals traveled to Montana to find out exactly where they were as a team and found out very quickly that long road trips mean little to no depth in key positions.

The Montana Blaze executed better and thoroughly beat the Generals 34-0. The Generals were held without points for the first time since their inception.

The Montana Blaze protected their home field with great depth and physicality against the spirited Generals. The Blaze’s Shane Jurasek continually kept plays alive with his legs and threw 5 touchdowns on the night.

At halftime the Blaze led 25-0. Jurasek threw 4 of his 5 touchdowns to his favorite target Ceylon Elgin-Taylor.The Blaze defense kept pressure on the Generals all night forcing 3 turnovers.

The Generals were led offensively by Jerry Smith with 121 total yards and Daniel Jenkins with 38 yards. The outsized offensive line of the Generals battled away as the hard running Jenkins made the most of his opportunities.

Meanwhile, the defense struggled against the pass in the first half. In the second half Britt Hall asked for the task to follow Elgin- Taylor all over the field and did a great shutting him down. The Generals were in position to make plays but could not come up with the big plays. The Generals were led in tackles by Quentin Bates, Brooks Engstrom, and Brian Seehawer.

The Generals never showed any quit. Noticeably fatigued and outnumbered 3-1, the Generals execution appeared to improve down the stretch in all three phases of the game. At this rate the Generals should improve greatly from week 1 to week 2.

Generals fans, they can't win them all but don’t worry; the Generals will make adjustments and play better against the Dixie Rebels out of St. George, Utah on Saturday April 12th at 6:00pm. Be there to support your Generals at Thunder Stadium in Eagle, Idaho where kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
