The Generals Struggles Continue, Lose to Rebels

Justin King

First and foremost, The Boise Generals and supporters of the Generals would like to thank the Dixie Rebels for coming to Idaho and playing the great game of football. However, we all have to remember that football is just a game and life, family, and friends are more important. On the way back to St. George, players from the Rebels were in a rollover accident. Thanks be to God, all the players are back home safe with their families and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the RMFL as you all travel the roadways.

The Boise Generals (0-1) played the 2nd ranked Dixie Rebels (1-0) from St. George. From the start of the game both teams wanted to be physical. You could hear the collisions loudly inside the booth. This game meant something to both teams. The Rebels marched down the field on a 14 play drive to start the game. A four yard run to the right made it 7-0 Rebels. The Generals had the ball for 6 plays and the quarter was over, eventually the Generals turn the ball over on downs. The Generals defense created a turnover and they were back in business at the Rebels 45 yard line. The next play would change the dynamics of the entire game, the Generals leader Jerry Smith went down with an injury. The Generals needed to find an answer and they got in, ‘Ole reliable, Britt Hall. Acree to Hall would be the recurring theme on the night. Hall would go on to finish the game with 8 catches for 154 yards. Not to mention Hall’s role on defense as a two way player.

With the score sitting at 0-7 the Generals found themselves on their opponents 12 with an untimed down going into halftime. A score here would not only tie the game but it would give the Generals the shot in the arm they have needed all year. The Generals quarterback rolled to his left and threw a pass to the back of the end zone; a Rebels defender put a hand up and knocked it down. That sums up the game and the Generals offense couldn’t find the end zone for the second straight week.As the Boise winds blew, the Generals and the Dixie Rebels battled hard for 3 quarters. Both teams played hard, both teams fought for pride. It was the Rebels that won the battle.

The Rebels controlled the trenches, their offensive line was dominant as the Rebels ran the ball very well. Their defensive line was tenacious as their defense was in the Generals back field all night. The Rebels played with enthusiasm and executed their scheme well. By the end the Generals were over matched. Giving up 3 passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter made the game look more lopsided than the tough fought battle that took place. The Generals played better than the previous week but still was victim of a blowout loss.

The General’s coaches were proud of the effort of the team on both sides of the ball. The offense moved the ball into the red zone 3 times but coming away with zero points was disappointing. TJ Acree was at the helm most of the night showing his speed evading rushers and showing ability to throw ending the day with 172 yards in the air. The defense was led by RMFL legend Zac Jockumsen with 14 tackles 2 sacks and a forced fumble. But the Achilles heel was again turnovers as the Generals handed it over to the Rebels 4 times and only came away with 1 turnover of their own.

The Boise Generals (0-2) face their rival the Idaho Matadors (0-2) Saturday April 19th in Caldwell. Both of these quality teams are thirsty for a win and will battle extremely hard next week. Come join the action and excitement at 4:00 PM at Caldwell High School this coming Saturday.
