Matadors rally in the 4th to shock the Generals 15-13.

The Boise Generals and the Idaho Matadors played a classic rivalry game on Saturday April 19th.

The Boise Generals dominated the game for 3 quarters. The Generals got on the board in the 3rd quarter for the first time in 2014. The Generals were up by 13 with 4 minutes left in the game. The Matadors made it 13-7 with a 15 yard pass play. Everyone in the stadium knew what was coming, an onside kick. The generals recovered the onside kick. However, 2 plays later the Generals fumbled on their own 40 giving the Matadors a chance to take the lead.

The Generals defense stood strong and stopped the Matadors with their backs against the goal line with an interception by Spencer Burchard. With just over 2 minutes to go in the game the Generals failed to run out the clock. Taking a safety to give the defense more room the Generals gave the ball back to the Matadors with a 13-9 lead with 1:00 on the clock. With no time outs and an untimed down the Matadors scored on a controversial touchdown, winning the game 15-13.

The Matadors (1-2) and the Generals (0-3) play a hard fought game. Both defenses played very well. It was an entertaining game for the crowd. The star of the game was Britt Hall he led the offense with 131 yards receiving with a touchdown and had 2 interceptions on defense. Guy Givens was a wrecking ball on the defensive line for the Generals finishing the afternoon with 4 sacks and a total of 5 tackles for loss. Givens had help from Mike Mapu, the big fella was also dominant. He had 2 sacks and 3.5 TFL himself. The defense played their best football of the season.

The Generals offense moved the ball up and down the field but could not find the end zone enough to put the game away. The Generals used the legs of Daniel Jenkins to sustain drives. With key first down catches from Hall the Generals looked poised to win their first game. It was not to be. The Generals have more work to do but have improved on offense and on defense. The Generals host the Great Falls Gladiators on Saturday April 26th at 6:00p.

The Generals would like to thank their families, friends and fans for the support even in a tough year. Come cheer the Boise Generals to their first win of the season.
